Lulworth Castle, Dorset
Dating from 1606 and originally built as a Hunting Lodge, Lulworth Castle is listed Grade I.A devastating fire completely burnt out the Castle in 1929 destroying the interior. It remained a roofless ruin for over 50 years after which English Heritage started a conservation project that spanned over many years.
Amanda Le Page was part of a team that conserved and stabilised the castle and ultimately led one of the repair phases. Using archaeological techniques the castle was recorded and the fabric repaired. The sequence of development informed the conservation project of the external fabric of the building leaving the inside for presentation to the public as a Country House ‘undressed. The project won an RICS award in 2000.
