Plymouth Gin Speakeasy Bar

  • Culture and Leisure

Le Page Architects were appointed to create a ‘speakeasy’ style private members bar in a secret location within the Grade II* listed Plymouth Gin Distillery.

Traditionally, speakeasies were establishments for illegal drinking that came to prominence during the Prohibition era in 1920s America.  Designed along this concept, the bar is accessed via a discreet hidden entrance, allowing its location to remain largely unknown.

To the interior, glass decanter pendant lights hang over a bespoke-made walnut bar, where a selection of cocktails are mixed and served to members.   Remnants of the buildings past remain in place, maintaining the character of this unusual space, that was once used to house a single large gin Vat.  Along the rear wall, an archive cabinet displays antique bottles and artefacts collected through the history of Plymouth Gin, creating a unique backdrop to a comfortable seating area.
